Levi Aul is the CTO and co-founder of Covalent, a blockchain data infrastructure company. ^[1]

Education

Aul graduated from Langara College with an Associate of Science in Computer Science in 2006. He then attended the University of British Columbia but left to pursue software engineering consulting work. ^[2]

Career

Aul began his career in 2009 as lead developer at SpiltWines.com, where he translated business requirements into user-experience flows and domain models. He designed backend logic for social features such as user walls, recommendations, and moderation tools, and delivered prototype templates for frontend development.

In 2009, he joined Thrum as a systems engineer. He developed a service-oriented backend using Python, HAProxy, and ZeroMQ, improving system concurrency and efficiency. He contributed to both client- and server-side features, led a migration from Subversion to Git, and helped establish a Git-based continuous integration pipeline.

In 2010, Aul founded Peripia, building a chat service that evolved into a simulated-world collaboration platform. He developed a scalable messaging system using Erlang and supporting technologies, and created a rich HTML5/WebGL client, later adapting it for native and legacy environments. The product launched commercially, and he handled operations, marketing, and analytics before delegating his role and selling the company.

Between 2012 and 2012, he worked as a system administrator and operations engineer at Computers for Schools BC. His responsibilities included network setup, automation of imaging and testing processes, and web portal development.

In 2014, he became chief technology officer at Bex.io, where he led a distributed systems engineering team that built a white-labeled bitcoin exchange platform using Erlang and AWS. Aul then worked as a systems engineer at Walter.ai, where he developed a relationship graph system to help founders connect with investors in 2016. This involved geographic data routing with PostgreSQL and social content scraping through Elixir and browser extensions.

Since 2017, he has served as chief technology officer at Covalent. He works on designing and maintaining a scalable ETL pipeline that transforms multi-blockchain event data into an OLAP data warehouse. He combines on- and off-chain data while preserving data historicity and generates per-user OLAP cubes to support analytics. ^{[1] [3] [4]}
